Selfie-lovers are winging their way to a hair salon to snap pictures posing with an art installation that has been created to help raise money for charity.

With inspiration from pop star Robbie Williams, artist Daren Terry has transformed the window of Lotus Styling into a giant pair of angel’s wings to symbolise the arrival of Christmas and the need to embrace the spirit of giving.

Now people are flocking to what has been dubbed the “Angel of the south” to take pictures and in so doing have inadvertently turned the shop front display in to huge attraction.

Daren, who owns and runs the salon with wife Kate (pictured), created the window art to help raise awareness and money for Parkinson’s UK, after his dad sadly died from the disease earlier this year.

And Daren says he has been overwhelmed by the reception the artwork has attracted. He explained: “We wanted to create an interactive installation and with Christmas around the corner, this seemed to work on all levels.

“It embraces all that is good about the festive period. We have used the words, ‘I’m loving angels instead’ from the Robbie’s song, Angels, and they have so much significance in lots of ways. we have sent some publicity about the campaign to Robbie and his lovely wife Ayda Field and if they can back what we are doing that would be amazing.

“There was a level of expectation to how well received the window would be, but the reaction has totally blown us away

“It’s great; people keep passing by, stopping, popping back and taking selfies. The more publicity we can give to Parkinson UK the better. As well as donations, of course. For every 100 selfies we will donate £50 to the cause plus the kind folks at Tangle Angel are donating brushes to the 50th 100th and 150th person to pose with the wings

“Our social media platforms are carrying the hashtag #theangelofthesouth so make sure your pics use this with your post.”
