Budding starlets are being urged to scrum on down to a two-day coaching camp at the town’s rugby club. Hampshire Avenue-based Bognor Rugby Club is holding the London Irish Rugby Camp aimed at youngsters aged from seven to 14 at the end of July.

A London Irish spokesman said: “The core values on which all London Irish Rugby Camps are based on are inclusiveness, openness, and a team ethos; all of which we actively encourage participants to respect and develop for themselves.

“The programme has been developed by our professional academy and community coaches to cover all positions for players of all abilities. Whether you are new to the game or the next Topsy Ojo, our camps provide the perfect mix of technical coaching and games which are delivered in a fun, safe and professional rugby environment.

“Whether you are an experienced player or completely new to the game, our camps are suitable for players of all abilities. Lunch is not included and players will need to bring a suitable packed lunch to keep them energised throughout the day!

“Players will need suitable training kit, extra layers and waterproofs, sunblock (if it’s sunny!), water bottle, packed lunch, mouthguard (for U9s upwards), and any other protective kit you might want to wear.”

The club promises that players will receive tutoring from their community coaches, and the course cost, of £60, includes a free junior match ticket to an allocated home game with an accompanying full-paying adult. To book your place on a London Irish Rugby Camp, on July 31 and August 1 (camps start at 9.30am and finish at 3.30pm) call 01932 750 100.

Meanwhile, club spokesman Doug Millen says it’s a case of “all hands on deck” when the club stage a clean-up day on June 3, at 9am. He said: “All hands on deck please as many hands make light work! Shouldn’t take long if we all muck in! We’ve got a job for everyone from bar cleaners to changing room moppers. There are huge surprise rewards for those who attend, please come and join the fun.”
