Game on! Pitch is ‘passed’ for Pagham’s cup tie with Brighton starlets tonight

Brighton and Hove Albion

PAGHAM chiefs have let out collective sign of relief after officials passed the Nyetimber Lane pitch as “playable” meaning tonight’s prestigious cup tie with Brighton goes ahead.

The Lions come face to face with an Albion development squad in a Sussex Senior Cup clash a week after the game was called off due to a frozen pitch.

The decision last Wednesday was met with frustration within the Pagham hierarchy who then were further irked when their game at home to Peacehaven on Saturday in the SCFL Premier division also fell foul of the weather.

But the green light has been given and excitement is building at the prospect of a good crowd attending to see Mark Bennett’s high-flying side take on the Seagulls starlets.

Committee member Ray Nunn told So Bognor:

“We’re delighted it’s on after the frustration of two postponements. There has been a buzz building at the club and we can’t wait to get under way.”

“We’re hoping for a bigger gate than usual and, of course, would urge all local football fans to come along and cheer the boys on. And we know there are a good few Brighton supporters in our area and no doubt they will come along to see their stars of the future, too.”

*Kick-off is 7.30pm: adults £6, concessions £3.
