Ghost Town Games, the UK-based developer behind the acclaimed co-operative series Overcooked, has unveiled the first proper look at its next project, a mystery-solving adventure titled Stage Fright. The game is scheduled for release in 2027 and marks a significant shift in tone for the studio, moving from frantic kitchens to a “spooky” coming-of-age narrative.
Published by Hello Games—the studio known for No Man’s Sky—the new title will be available on PC via Steam, the Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo’s upcoming successor console, the Switch 2. This marks one of the first major projects from Ghost Town Games since the Overcooked franchise became a global staple of social gaming.
Stage Fright follows a trio of characters as they navigate a series of supernatural mysteries. The developers have cited a range of cultural influences for the project, including the 1980s classic The Goonies, the Netflix series Stranger Things, and the atmospheric puzzle-solving of Luigi’s Mansion.
Co-operative puzzles and gameplay
The core gameplay is built around escape room-style puzzles designed for up to three players. While the setting has changed, the studio is retaining the “pick-up-and-play” accessibility that defined its previous work, focusing on communication and teamwork rather than complex control mechanics. Players will be able to tackle the adventure through both local “couch” co-op and online multiplayer modes.
According to details shared following the reveal, the game is expected to launch across all confirmed platforms within the 2027 calendar year. The studio has partnered with Guildford-based Hello Games for the title.
The game has already appeared on the Steam store for PC players to wishlist, though specific details regarding potential cross-play between the original Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2 have yet to be confirmed by the developers. The project is being framed as a character-driven mystery that maintains the studio’s signature charm while offering a more structured narrative experience than its predecessors.
