Kirby and the World Beyond announced for Switch 2 with 2027 release

Nintendo has officially announced Kirby and the World Beyond, a major new 3D adventure set to launch on the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2.

The reveal took place during a Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, 9 September 2026. Developed by HAL Laboratory, the title appears to be a significant expansion of the 3D gameplay established in 2022’s Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The timing is notable for fans, as the release coincides with the 35th anniversary of the long-running franchise.

Speculation has mounted regarding a crossover with The Legend of Zelda after a specific sword was shown in the trailer.

A Legend of Zelda crossover?

One of the most discussed elements of the reveal is a sequence featuring a new Copy Ability. The trailer showcased Kirby utilizing a powered-up sword transformation that bears a striking visual resemblance to the Master Sword from The Legend of Zelda series.

While Nintendo has not explicitly confirmed a formal crossover event, the trailer featured the new sword variant. According to IGN, the reveal showcased this Zelda-like sword ability as a key highlight.

Anniversary celebrations

The release is scheduled to coincide with Kirby’s 35th-anniversary celebrations. Details regarding further anniversary activities are expected to be shared at a later date.

The Nintendo Direct served as a platform for several major announcements, where Kirby and the World Beyond stood out as a primary showcase for the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2, which will be the game’s platform at launch.

Exact pricing and specific pre-order dates for the title have not yet been disclosed by Nintendo.
