Xbox leaks reveal ‘Mythic’ achievement tier for 100% game completion

Xbox players may soon have a dedicated reward for “completing” their games, following the leak of a new “Mythic” achievement tier that mirrors the PlayStation Platinum Trophy system.

The details emerged on 22 September 2026, when data-mined files from the Xbox PC application revealed a new classification of achievement. The system, reportedly named “Mythic,” appears designed to address a gap in the Xbox ecosystem that has existed since Sony introduced the Platinum Trophy for PlayStation in 2008.

According to the leaked files, players who unlock every achievement in a title’s “Base Game” list will be rewarded with the Mythic status. Crucially, the system is expected to be retroactive, meaning players who have already finished their libraries to 100% should see the new rewards appear automatically once the system goes live.

A 15-second celebration

Perhaps the most striking discovery in the app files is the audio notification accompanying the unlock. While standard Xbox achievements use a brief “ping,” the Mythic sound effect is approximately 15 seconds long—a significantly more elaborate fanfare intended to mark the final completion of a game.

Visually, the system is expected to update the way games are displayed in a player’s library. Leaked assets show game art adorned with green stars and laurelled borders to signify completion. Unlike standard achievements which contribute to a player’s overall Gamerscore, these Mythic rewards are reported to carry a value of 0 Gamerscore, serving instead as a purely visual and symbolic badge of honour.

Base game requirements

The new tier specifically targets the “Base Game” achievement group. This means players will not be required to purchase or complete additional DLC (downloadable content) or post-launch title updates to earn a Mythic badge. This aligns with the mechanics used by rival platforms, where the top-tier trophy is tied strictly to the launch-day achievement list.

This development follows a teaser from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma in August 2026. During a media briefing, Sharma confirmed the platform team was working on a completionist reward system for “later this year,” though she stopped short of naming the feature or describing its mechanics at the time.

Analysis from TrueAchievements suggests that while some strings in the code mention 100% Gamerscore, the underlying data points towards the reward being tied to the quantity of achievements within the base group rather than the point total alone.

Microsoft has not yet officially confirmed an exact launch date for the Mythic system, but industry insiders suggest a rollout to the Xbox Insider programme could begin before the end of September. It remains unclear whether the 15-second sound effect will be togglable or if legacy titles from the original Xbox or Xbox 360 eras will be updated to support the new tier.
