A Birmingham-based waste company has been ordered to pay nearly £24,000 and clear its site in the city centre following a prosecution by the Environment Agency.
Greener Lifestyle Limited, located at 39 Trent Street, Birmingham, B5 5NL, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 14 September 2026. The company pleaded guilty to three charges related to operating a waste facility without the necessary environmental permit.
The court imposed a total financial penalty of £23,796.50. This consists of a £10,000 fine, a victim surcharge of £2,000, and the Environment Agency’s full costs of £11,796.50.
Remediation and cleanup
Alongside the financial penalties, magistrates issued a Remediation Order against the firm. This legal instruction requires the company to remove all remaining waste from the Trent Street site within six months of the court order. Failure to comply with such an order can lead to further legal consequences.
The Environment Agency brought the case after identifying that the company had operated outside the law between 29 July 2025 and 2 February 2026.
Notices ignored
During the investigation, Environment Agency officers found that the company had ignored formal notices to stop its operations. Despite being told to cease activity while it lacked a valid permit, inspections confirmed that waste volumes at the Birmingham site continued to increase.
The site at 39 Trent Street must now be cleared of all waste by mid-March 2027 to satisfy the conditions of the Remediation Order.
