The Great British Sewing Bee has crowned its 2026 champion, with 27-year-old barista Anna emerging victorious in the season 12 finale. The concluding episode, which aired on BBC One on 15 September, saw the North Yorkshire-based sewer beat fellow finalists Beth and Emma to secure the coveted golden sewing machine trophy.
Filmed at Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley, Leeds—the show’s production home since series 8—the final brought a 10-week competition to a close. Anna, who grew up in Surrey before moving to the North, impressed judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young with her technical precision and creative vision across three demanding final challenges.
The Final Challenges
The finale pushed the remaining three amateur sewers through a rigorous set of tasks designed to test every facet of their craft. The Pattern Challenge required the contestants to create a coordinated silk bow tie and cummerbund, a task that proved particularly difficult due to specific requirements for bow tie interfacing.
This was followed by the Transformation Challenge, where the sewers were tasked with turning vintage luxury tableware, such as lace tablecloths and napkins, into wearable high-end beachwear. The competition then culminated in a ‘Metamorphosis’ themed Made-to-Measure challenge, inspired by the dramatic costume reveals often seen at the Met Gala.
Anna secured her win with an iridescent dress inspired by a damsel fly, featuring complex organza wings that transformed as the model walked the runway. Her victory follows a consistently strong performance throughout the series, during which she was awarded ‘Garment of the Week’ three times. Judges praised her ability to combine high-fashion concepts with meticulous construction.
Comedian Sophie Willan hosted this 12th series, marking her debut as the programme’s presenter. As reported by YorkMix, Anna currently lives on a narrowboat which she built with her boyfriend, and she has worked with the St Leonard’s Hospice retail team in York. Following her win, she expressed an aspiration to move into professional costume design, specifically for period dramas.
