Comedian Rhod Gilbert has reflected on his health as he launches a new television project and prepares for future fundraising challenges following treatment for Stage 4 cancer.
Gilbert, who was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in June 2022, underwent treatment at the Velindre Cancer Centre and received his first clear scan in May 2023.
Gilbert is currently appearing on screens in the six-part competition series Wagging Rights, which airs on Sundays at 8:00 PM on the U&Dave and U&W channels. The programme sees Gilbert participating with his dog, Picsen, against other celebrities and their pets in various canine challenges.
Gilbert’s return to broadcasting follows the conclusion of his “The Giant Grapefruit” tour. According to his official website, the tour finished in March 2026 after 180 performances. The shows raised more than £300,000 for Cancer Research UK and the Velindre Cancer Centre.
The comedian has been an active fundraiser for Velindre, leading international treks to raise money for the cancer centre. His next expedition is scheduled for October 2027, when he is set to lead a fundraising group through the Ourika Valley in Morocco.
The trek is part of his ongoing commitment to the charity that treated him. While Gilbert has acknowledged his diagnosis, his recent work schedule marks a return to the public eye.
