An independent Sussex business that operates a retail shop in Brighton is highlighting its history in the city.
The Brighton Sausage Co, founded in 2006 by Paul Gilks and David Barr, has traded since its launch in the heart of Brighton’s North Laine. The business remains a fixture of the city’s high street.
Starting as a specialist shop at 28a Gloucester Road, the business survived various economic shifts by focusing on traditional production methods. The founders, who have been at the helm since the launch, initially produced all goods on-site.
The retail shop has diversified its offerings over time. Today, the Brighton premises stocks more than 70 varieties of cheese alongside its signature products.
The business has gained national recognition for its output. According to the Brighton Sausage Co, its Cumberland sausage previously reached the national final of the Champion of Champions, a prestigious industry competition for independent producers.
The retail shop in the North Laine continues to operate seven days a week, serving both the local community and visitors to the area.
