Primark to launch home delivery in Great Britain following £90m warehouse acquisition

Primark has confirmed it is preparing to launch a home delivery service for shoppers across Great Britain, marking a major strategic shift for the high-street retailer that has long resisted the move to online sales.

The announcement came on 10 September 2026 as part of a trading update from parent company Associated British Foods (ABF). To support the transition, Primark has acquired a £90 million highly automated fulfilment centre in Sheffield from the boohoo Group, which was previously used as a distribution hub for Debenhams.

While the company has not yet set a specific launch date, stating the service will arrive “in the future”, the move signals the end of Primark’s position as a bricks-and-mortar exclusive retailer. Previously, the company argued that the low margins on its budget-priced clothing made the costs of shipping and handling returns economically unviable.

Nationwide infrastructure

The decision to move into home delivery follows the national rollout of Primark’s Click and Collect service earlier in 2026. That service is currently available in all stores across Great Britain.

The new Sheffield warehouse will provide the automated infrastructure needed to process individual home orders at scale. According to the Associated British Foods trading update, this investment is part of a broader strategy to modernise Primark’s digital presence.

Corporate changes and financial outlook

The pivot to online delivery coincides with a significant restructuring of the business. ABF has confirmed plans to demerge Primark into a separate FTSE 100 listed company by December 2027. This move is expected to give the retailer more independence to pursue its own growth strategy.

The announcement comes despite a challenging quarter for the brand. Primark expects sales to drop by approximately 3% for the quarter ending 12 September 2026, a dip attributed largely to unseasonable weather affecting footfall.

While shoppers await a firm start date for home deliveries, the service will initially be restricted to Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales). Specific details regarding minimum spend requirements or delivery charges have not yet been disclosed. For now, the retailer continues to direct customers to its Click and Collect service for online browsing and purchasing.
