Skipper Stevens and Gibbs dazzle in Bognor’s thumping victory over Fordingbridge

Double tries from skipper Shane Stevens as well as Pat Gibbs gave Bognor an impressive 43-7 win over Fordingbridge at the weekend. This result sees the Hampshire Avenue outfit move up to third in the London & SE Division Hampshire 1.

Bognor will use their boosted confidence to build on this win when they travel away to Ellingham & Ringwood on October 21st.

The hosts couldn’t have got off to a worse start with Fordingbridge scoring from the kick-off. Bognor picked themselves up and Stevens scored straight away, with Dave Sweeney just missing the kick.

Stevens was at it again with some good footwork that allowed him to beat his defender and score, with Sweeney successful in his conversion this time. Chris Webb then added his first try of the season to extend Bognor’s lead.

Gibbs scored his first try of the day, after some good mauling from Riley Chute and George Castleton and it was converted. Gibbs then showed off his ability with some blistering pace and good footwork, scoring again.

Webb travelled 40 meters with the ball before being stopped, but the subsequent maul allowed Darren Bidwell to score in the corner. Sweeney then converted for the fourth time in the game.

Nathan Archer secured an impressive win for the home side with a try near the end.

A victory over Ellingham & Ringwood in their next fixture could see Bognor overtake US Portsmouth to sit in second place, closing the gap on league leaders Millbrook.
