Kari and Co in the zone as inaugural Regis-10 mile road race is hailed a huge success…

Tone Zone runner Kari Mack scorched round the inaugural Regis 10 mile road race course in a time of 1.08.55 to finish first in the ladies’ race.

Nearly 500 runners took part on Sunday and among them were 51 Tone Zoners. Kari  was closely followed by Juliet Stallard, who finished second.

Juliet took six minutes off her previous best and crossed the line in 1.09.16. The first male runner to finish for the club was Peter Lee with a personal best time of 1.01.49. Next up was Sean Power who, despite slowing slightly in the closing stages,  finished in an impressive 1.04.

Taking six minutes from his best time was Jack Penfold, who was third home for Tone Zone in 1.07.36. Tone Zone spokesman Glenn Penfold said the quick times are proof that the Regis 10 is a fast course.

He added: “From the start at Bognor Regis Football club the runners headed to Aldwick where they turned back along the prom then after a lap of Hotham Park they continued towards Middleton before returning to the football club along the seafront.

Stan Mack

“Jess Thomson continued her excellent running with another personal best of 1.13. Also running their best times were Stan Mack, Peter Ramsdale and Neil Pacey, with Stan taking an amazing 16 minutes from his fastest time.

“The race received unanimous praise from everyone at the club that took part, helped out or supported and we hope it will be a regular event on the Bognor town calendar. ”

Runner Kirstee Porter summed up the day perfectly when she said: “We were cheered on with such vigour by all the spectators, marshals and volunteers around the course. I might have been the last Tone Zone runner home but I got there in a faster time than I expected and faster than I’ve ever done over that distance, so that has to be a bonus. Thanks to everyone that made today what it was.”
