Balchin backs Bognor to retain stellar form ahead of upcoming clash with Farnborough

Club captain Lee Balchin hopes his side retains their fine form during the week-long break before their next match with Farnborough following their thumping victory over Ventnor.

Bognor take on Farnborough in the Junior Vase on November 18th and will hope for a similar performance after last week’s 71-5 destruction of Ventnor.

Pat Gibbs bagged a hat-trick of tries in the storming victory, which prompted team-mate Paddy Burnett to offer up praise for the team’s  fine performance. He said: “Great win for the boys and I’m really enjoying my first season as a senior.”

It was a stellar performance all round for the Hampshire Avenue outfit with every player itching to get on the scoreboard.

Joshua Riggall opened the scoring when he dotted down after a well-worked team effort. Jack Hornibrook added his name to the score sheet when he showed great pace to get over the line, then Dave Sweeney’s kick was successful.

Shane Stevens then showed some good pace to beat the outside centre, winger and full back and scored.  The conversion was good from Sweeney. Sweeney then secured a try, which he then converted.

Ben Burns was next to score when he made an excellent pass to Adam Knight and received it again to go over with ease. Ventnor got a try back before the break after a few missed tackles from for Bognor.

The visitors started the second half strong when Josh Burgess sprinted behind the defence to score. Sweeney added the extras. Stevens then added his second try of the day shortly after.

Gibbs scored his three tries near the end after some solid pace and neat footwork. Nathan Archer added another try before the final whistle. Out of the last five tries, four were converted by Sweeney.
