Miracle mum Amanda Newton lifts the lid on the many trials and tribulations of her inspirational life in a revealing book set to hit the shops in August.
Mum-of-four Amanda, a popular figure in Bognor Regis, had her life devastatingly changed forever two years ago when she was cycling on Bury Hill. Whilst training for a triathlon, the fervent athlete crashed her bike into a sign post, breaking her back, collar bone and ribs, leaving her paralysed from the waist down and unable to ever walk again.
She broke the news to her friends and family through a Facebook post, posting an image of herself wearing a neck brace and smiling just a few hours after the accident. She continued to keep her followers updated through social media posts, documenting the challenges of having to adapt to a new life almost overnight, and the affect that a disability can have on a person. Amanda, who was born in Chichester and lives in Yapton, remained positive throughout, finding the joys in life throughout her ordeal.
The Sky is Not The Limit relays the first year of Amanda’s new life, revisiting her Facebook posts and reflecting on how she felt at the time, compared to how she is now. She discusses how her life has changed with a disability, as well as how other people’s attitudes towards her may have shifted, and how she has struggled to regain her independence.
She also discusses the simple seeming issues which disabled people still face, such as access to buildings and other things we take for granted, as well as the care she received whilst in hospital.
Amanda, also known as Amanda Worne, is still in her wheelchair, but is finding new ways every day to remain the active and busy person she has always been. She takes part in 10k races, will be taking part in the London Marathon next year, has been sky-diving, speaks at schools and hospitals, has been shortlisted for an award by the Spinal Injury Association and has had her house recently renovated by DIY SOS (main picture: Amanda with Nick Knowles from the show).
