Campaigners who are desperate to save Bognor’s historic bandstand from being moved will vent their feelings at a gathering on the town’s promenade tomorrow (Wednesday).
Arun District Council are planning to switch the grade 2 listed bandstand to Waterloo Gardens as part of the so-called “seafront delivery plan”, which is said to costing £640,000.
The iconic bandstand, believed to be Edwardian, was installed on the seafront in 1948 and originally formed part of the Winter Garden building in Cheltenham before that was demolished in the early 1940s.
Now protestor Jeanette Chapman has taken to social media to inform residents of the meeting. She wrote: “Arun District Council are planning to remove our bandstand from its current location on the seafront and move it to Waterloo Square.
“Residents are planning to air their views to Arun District Council over the removal of the structure from its current location. Residents are being asked to meet at 10.30am at the bandstand where the local press will be present to cover the story and your views.
“If you feel the Bandstand should remain in its current location make your views known to Arun District Council and take five minutes of your time to join residents and send a message to the council at your disapproval of this decision.”
