Hair salon’s Pan-tastic ticket giveaway to support GOSH

Staff members at a hair salon are ready to sprinkle a little fairy dust over proceedings at their Bognor Regis HQ.

Owners Daren and Kate Terry are raffling three pairs of tickets to see the keenly anticipated Peter Pan production at the Chichester Festival Theatre over the festive period.

One of the couple’s sons, Kai, has a part in the show and the family and staff at the salon have embraced the story of the boy who never grew up from the pen of JM Barrie.

And that is being showcased by a fabulous window display depicting a scene from the classic tale, which sees Pan fly off into the London night sky with the Darling Children to Neverland.

Daren says money raised from the initiative will be donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital in the capital.

Barrie gave all the rights to Peter Pan to Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1929, and this was later confirmed when he died in 1937.

As a result of Barrie’s generosity and special legislation passed by the House of Lords, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity continues to receive a royalty every time a production of the play is put on in the UK, as well as from UK sales of Peter Pan books and some other products.

Barrie requested that the amount raised from Peter Pan should never be revealed, and the hospital has always honoured his wishes.

“It is a mesmerising story and a wonderfully created tale with fabulous characters and an endearing, timeless feel to it,” said Daren. “Kai is in the cast and we wanted to celebrate this and also try to raise money for GOSH, which has done so much unbelievable work in the care of sick children over many, many years.”

“And our niece, Jess, has just started her childrens’ nursing degree at GOSH, which we are really excited about, too.”

“Peter Pan never grew up and in many ways, our approach to business and life in general has an element of that philosophy.”

“We want to remind people that Christmas is a time for giving to nearest and dearest and remember that there are little ones and their families out there who need our support, especially over the festive period which I can only imagine can be very testing for all those who need the care and help of the hospital.”
