Charity fundraisers Daren and Kate see how vital money raised helps in fight to cure cancer

Hair salon fundraisers Daren and Kate Terry have shared their thoughts on an eye-opening tour of the Institute of Cancer Research on which they learned how experts are battling the disease.

Researchers believe deaths from cancer could be eliminated for all age groups except the over-80s by 2050 if recent gains in prevention and treatment carry on apace,.

The tour was part of a “thank you” to the husband and wife team, who run the town’s popular Lotus Styling salon in Aldwick Road, after they helped raise £1,200 for Breast Cancer Now charity as part of a GHD’s Electric Pink Campaign.

They were joined on the day by stylist Rhiannon Hambleton for a presentation ceremony and lunch at London’s Berkeley hotel before the tour of the ICR laboratories.

And Kate said: “We had a really thought-provoking and brilliant day with lunch and champagne. We then had a tour round the laboratories which we felt was a real honour being able to see first hand the research that they carry out into the disease and to learn that they are hoping that by 2050 everyone who develops cancer will live.”

The trip to London came after Lotus Styling staff were chosen from all of the salons in the south who took part in the fundraising effort.

Ghd has raised around £9million for breast cancer charities across the globe over the last 12 years with their annual pink limited editions. This year they want to raise that number to £10million by donating money from every electric pink purchase to breast cancer charities.
