Carnival capers could fall flat after just ONE volunteer came forward at recruitment drive

Carnival capers could fall flat for the summer procession after just ONE volunteer came forward at a recruitment drive. Now organisers at the Bognor Regis Carnival Association are desperately looking for helpers.

The eagerly anticipated annual event takes place along the town’s seafront on June 10 but needs volunteers to make it a success. But following a special meeting to sign-up would-be helpers disappointed organisers revealed they had only managed to add one lady.

Taking to socialal media to try to engender some more enthusiasm, a spokesman said: “Thank you to the ONE lovely lady that volunteered to help on carnival day when we held our volunteer recruitment night at the Friary Arms. However, ONE person is not enough!

“We are in desperate need of at least 10 people to man the road closures that make the carnival possible. Guaranteed a great view and food in the VIP tent! Come on people, help your local carnival association!”

The carnival parade includes a procession of spectacular floats through the town celebrating the best of Bognor, followed by celebrations at West Park.

“Our aim is to celebrate beautiful Bognor Regis by involving our community in an enjoyable and inclusive event while raising funds for local good causes,” adds the spokesman.

“We aim to be the biggest and best carnival on the South Coast and to become the jewel in the crown of our beautiful town.We aim to help local charities and community-based businesses by providing a family fun day alongside the carnival procession.

And it looks set to be a colourful affair with confirmed entries taking part including: Arun Alkido Club, The R.T Family, Bognor Regis District Scouts, SpecSavers – Bognor Regis, Bognor Regis International Birdman, Rose Green Art & Craft Centre, Well Fit -Well Fit 4 Life and the Kyushin Ryu Ju-Jitsu Association.
