Bognor Regis residents have been reminded that they can take advantage of a free service aimed at helping people who are unable to visit the library.
Home Library Direct is the new name for the volunteer service which delivers books and audiobooks direct to people who are unable to visit their local library on a regular basis.
For example, people who can no longer go to the library because of age, mobility problems, disability, illness or caring responsibilities.
The service, which is on the lookout for new volunteers, had a new face delivering books this week – Debbie Kennard, West Sussex County Council cabinet member for “safer, stronger communities”.
Debbie met Joan, 91, who lives at a residential home in Shoreham, to discover why it is so important for her. Joan said: “The book service is wonderful. I used to read a lot but have lost some of my sight. I listen to audiobooks. I particularly like romance ones. A good book helps take you away to another place. I put my headphones on and I can be away in a good book.”
Debbie said: “It was lovely meeting Joan today as well as the lady who delivers her audiobooks to her. Home Library Direct makes a real difference to many people who cannot access libraries. It is a fantastic service.”
Home Library Direct volunteers will deliver your choice of books, large print books and audiobooks. You can also reserve books online and use the free eLibrary to download: eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines all from home.
