Bognor student Dan is so proud after school gets top marks from inspectors

A Bognor Regis teenager has spoken of his pride in his school after a glowing report from inspectors in which top marks were gained for an “excellent attitude to learning”.

Year 10 pupil Dan Nash attends Our Lady of Sion School which also received plaudits for student wellbeing. He said: “It’s so good to see the recent inspection was really positive. My school provides great opportunities and a really innovative curriculum. As this report and the excellent mark we received really makes me proud of m school.”

Our Lady of Sion School in Gratwicke Road, Worthing, won praise from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) for the way it helps students develop their self-confidence and self-esteem and how it prepares them for life outside of school. Inspectors also highlighted students’ ‘excellent attitude to learning’ and identified teachers as ‘well-qualified’ with a ‘passion for their subjects.’

Following a three day inspection the school – which caters for pupils aged 3 to 19 – was also highly praised for the way students work with each other, the respect they show to others and their “emotional resilience”.

Headmaster Dr Simon Orchard said: “At a time when negative headlines about young people’s mental wellbeing are filling the front pages, we are immensely proud to be recognised for the work we’re doing in this area. Our starting point is that children do not learn well, and will struggle to go on to lead happy and productive lives, unless they feel positive about themselves and their abilities.

“Through an innovative curriculum, and a dedicated staff team, we ensure that all children can explore their talents, try things out and be challenged and supported to be their best in a small, caring environment.”
